TASHKENT, July 2. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, аn online conference “Sustainable approaches to recovery from COVID-19 in the Central Asian region: The role of parliaments” has taken place, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), was attended by representatives of the parliaments of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

First Vice-Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Akmal Saidov addressed the conference.

As it was noted, even the online conference itself is one of the characteristic features of the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the life of all mankind. Since December 2019, there are several restrictions in the world. Despite the fairly widespread vaccination campaign in some countries, we cannot say that the problems associated with COVID-19 have been completely resolved. No one can say yet when the situation can return to normal as much as possible.

Even though COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to the whole world, it is necessary to achieve a sustainable standard of living by analyzing the existing problems and concluding, taking on their basic steps that will benefit not only the present, but also the next generations.

Today, no country in the world can develop in isolation from the world economy. In this regard, this online conference serves as a platform for in-depth analysis of the ways and possibilities of cooperation, in particular inter-parliamentary, between the countries of Central Asia.

It was noted that Uzbekistan has joined 11 international conventions and 7 multilateral international agreements in environmental protection.

The Oliy Majlis contributes to the development of the country’s green economy. It was emphasized that the inter-parliamentary dialogue will help bring the countries of the region to an even more successful path of development, improve the economic situation of people, and contribute to the solution of pressing issues using the exchange of experience and opinions.

Following the talks, an agreement was reached on further enhancing and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is an important factor in the development of multilateral relations, the organization of joint events in this sphere, and the exchange of experience in lawmaking.
