National Human Rights Centre of Uzbekistan and the University of Bristol sign Memorandum of Understanding

With the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the University of Bristol (United Kingdom).

According to the National Human Rights Centre, the Memorandum of Understanding provides for cooperation between institutions in protection of human rights and freedoms based on equality and mutual respect. Cooperation will be carried out in such areas as strengthening the national legal framework in accordance with international agreements on human rights, conducting joint research, information and educational activities, participation in training programs on human rights issues. It is also planned to exchange information, legislative acts, analytical materials and literature, the organization of internships.

The signing of the Memorandum became a logical continuation of close cooperation of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the Human Rights Implementation Centre at the University of Bristol. Over the past two years, activities have been held on implementation of international treaties on human rights, in particular, in December 2017, trainings were held on “Human rights indicators, reporting and determining progress in implementing commitments under the UN human rights mechanisms” and on ratifying Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
