MFA representatives and Central Asian parliamentarians discuss climate diplomacy in the region

A meeting of representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the highest representative bodies of the legislative power of the Central Asian countries has taken place via videoconference. Current issues of climate diplomacy in the Aral Sea basin were discussed at the event.

The meeting was organized within the framework of the World Bank project “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Program in the Aral Sea Basin” (CAMP4ASB), the executive agency of which is the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
 
The event was attended by diplomats and members of parliaments of Central Asia and Afghanistan, as well as representatives of donor communities (German Federal Foreign Office) and international organizations (World Bank, European Union, GIZ, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation).
 
Uzbekistan delegation was headed by Boriy Alikhanov, Chairman of the Committee on Development of the Aral Sea Region of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
 
Participants of the meeting positively assessed the results achieved within the framework of the CAMP4ASB project at both the national and regional levels. The importance of this format meetings in strengthening the legislative and political foundations of regional cooperation in adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its consequences in the region was noted.
 
An agreement was reached to hold the next meeting within the framework of the fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2021).
