Briefing on the eve of Samarkand Web Forum

Samarkand Forum on Human Rights “Youth 2020: Global Solidarity, Sustainable Development and Human Rights” will kick off on August 12. It will be attended by 1,000 experts, including representatives of international and regional organizations, national human rights institutions, international and national NGOs and youth organizations.

The program of the forum will include more than 50 key speeches by both international speakers and specialists from Uzbekistan. Topics on “Development of international standards of youth rights”, “Youth rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", “Education of youth on human rights issues”, “The role of youth in ensuring peace and security: prospects for a safer future by 2030” will be discussed at the meeting.
 
The discussion of the draft UN International Convention on the Rights of Youth, which was developed by Uzbekistan on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will become an important event of Samarkand Forum. This initiative was announced by the Head of the state in 2017 at the 72nd UN General Assembly.
 
The event is organized by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, represented by the National Center for Human Rights. The forum will be held with the support of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR Regional Office for Central Asia, UNDP, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan and other international partners.
