Uzbekistan’s Ambassador and EU Special Representative for Human Rights discuss prospects for cooperation

Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov, has held a videoconference with the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore.

The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union in human rights.
 
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the international initiatives forwarded by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the adoption of special resolutions of the UN General Assembly “Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance”, the development of the UN International Convention on the Rights of Youth, a special UN Program to assist the Aral Sea region, ensuring security and strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia, as well as stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan.
 
Eamon Gilmore highly appreciated the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, measures to reform the judicial system, ensure the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, strengthen the role of civil society, support the media, and others.
 
The EU Special Representative also expressed readiness to visit Uzbekistan after the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the world.
 
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on a number of joint events in Brussels, including a plan of contacts for the future.
