Uzbekistan, EU discuss enhancing interaction issues

Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov met with Deputy Secretary General, Political Director of the European External Action Service Enrique Mora.

Enrique Mora welcomed the positive transformations taking place in Uzbekistan in recent years. He emphasized the constructive regional policy of the country’s leadership, thanks to which a new political atmosphere was established in Central Asia. He praised the level of relations between the European Union and Uzbekistan, which cover the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Satisfaction was expressed with the dynamic development of bilateral ties, which are traditionally friendly in nature.
 
Particular attention was paid to the ongoing negotiation process on the bilateral Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA), obtaining by Uzbekistan of the beneficiary status of GSP+ and the country’s accession to the WTO.
 
Enrique Mora welcomed the progress achieved in this direction. He expressed confidence that the process will be completed in the near future, noting the mutual interest of the parties.
 
The European side noted its readiness to consider the possibility of organizing regular meetings of Uzbekistan – EU joint bodies this year, based on the epidemiological situation in the world.
