The number of coronavirus infection cases in Uzbekistan has increased in recent days. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated this with worry during the videoconference on May 26.

According to current statistics, almost 50% of all infected cases are detected in people who returned from abroad: 47 thousand citizens to date. In the coming days, more than 10,000 people will arrive by air and through border posts. In total, more than 100,000 Uzbekistani have expressed their desire to return to their homeland and are on wait list.

The President of Uzbekistan noted that, considering the seriousness of epidemiological situation in citizens’ returning destinations, the government can’t remain oblivious.

Along with this, the increase of COVID-19 positive cases is linked to the ease of quarantine measures. We observe violation of social distancing rule, especially in the bazaars and shopping malls, banks. While outside, people stopped wearing a facemask; mass events at home became more frequent.

Thus, Republican Commission along with khokims are assigned to revise quarantine territories where epidemiological situation worsened. The government is planning to increase COVID-19 tests in “red” and “yellow” zones per day and conduct control testing in medical institutions, bazaars, banks and public places.

Noteworthy that within the last three months, Uzbekistan adopted 16 Presidential decrees aimed at mitigating the impact of coronavirus pandemic on country’s economy, support interpreters and ensure public’s social protection.

In this regard, bоth chambers of the Parliament and local Kengashes of people’s deputies were advised to strengthen monitoring of implementation of presidential decisions adopted within the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
