PRESIDENT OF UZBEKISTAN HOLDS A PHONE CALL WITH PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA

On May 7, 2020, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The heads of state exchanged warm congratulations on the upcoming holiday – the 75th Anniversary of the Victory over Fascism, wished the valiant veterans, friendly peoples of the two countries health and wellbeing.

It was emphasized that the courage and heroism of our fathers and grandfathers, who fought shoulder to shoulder on the front and selflessly worked in the rear, will forever remain in the grateful memory of descendants.

During the conversation, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Russia considered urgent issues of bilateral strategic partnership.

The progressive development of multifaceted cooperation, primarily in trade and economic sphere, was noted with deep satisfaction.

Despite the difficult situation in the global economy, mutual trade is growing. Implementation of important investment projects in the industry, energy, agriculture, transport, as well as on infrastructure modernization continues.

Cooperation between the regions of the two countries is intensifying, cultural and humanitarian exchange, cooperation in science and education, healthcare and sports are enhancing.

Presidents drew attention to the importance of carefully preparing upcoming events at the highest level. The necessity of consolidating efforts and taking leading measures in order to prevent the negative effects of the global crisis on the dynamics of economic interaction was noted. Work will continue under the Joint Commission at the level of the Heads of Government and the Intergovernmental Commission.

The heads of state discussed the situation resulting from the coronavirus spread. Mutual support was expressed for the anti-crisis measures taken in both countries, including targeted assistance and strengthening social guarantees for the population, comprehensive assistance to business, support for basic sectors of the economy, gradual mitigation of restrictions.

The importance of continuing close coordination and collaboration to effectively combat the pandemic by the governments of Uzbekistan and Russia was emphasized.

The leaders also exchanged views on the current issues of international politics and the regional agenda.

The conversation took place in a traditionally warm, open and friendly atmosphere.
