On February 22, the President of Uzbekistan to Speak at the Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council

TASHKENT, February 21. /“Dunyo” IA/. On February 22, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will participate at the work of the high-level segment of the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Human Rights Council is one of the most high-profile intergovernmental bodies of the UN system, which is set to ensure protection of human rights throughout the world.

The Council includes 47 member-states. In October last year our country for the first time was elected a member of this structure for 2021-2023.

Due to the pandemic of coronavirus, the current session of the Council will take place in Geneva via videoconferencing.

The agenda includes the most outstanding issues related to observance and protection of human rights, including ensuring civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

The event will host the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, the heads of states, governments, foreign ministers and high representatives from about 150 countries of the world.

President of Uzbekistan will speak at the first day of the work of the forum – at its plenary session.

In his address the Head of our state will dwell in detail on the priorities of deepening democratic transformations in the country and major directions of the work in the framework of the Human Rights Council.

The address by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan will also be aired live through the central national television channels.
