Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

WASHINGTON, November 18. /Dunyo IA/. Yesterday, Uzbekistan delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Robert Destro, in Washington, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

During the meeting, a substantive conversation was held on promising areas for further development of bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The American side was informed about large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan and results achieved in ensuring fundamental freedoms and human rights, fighting corruption, media freedom, eliminating forced labor and developing civil society institutions.

The American diplomat praised measures taken under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to democratize the country, liberalize society and strengthen the rule of law.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, Robert Destro congratulated on the election of the republic to the UN Human Rights Council and expressed readiness to work together to implement the priority tasks of the Uzbek side in this structure.

The parties confirmed their commitment to enhancing Uzbekistan – American cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
