MEETING WITH THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN

On January 12, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the first Ministerial Meeting of India – Central Asia Dialogue, in Samarkand.

At the meeting, the heads of foreign affairs agencies emphasized that due to firm political will of the heads of the two countries, Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan strategic partnership is dynamically and fruitfully developing in the spirit of good-neighborliness, friendship and mutual understanding.

The sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan on April 23-24, 2018.

Regarding the prospects for expanding bilateral trade-economic relations, the ministers noted the dynamic growth of trade, which in January-November last year increased by 53% compared with the corresponding period of 2017.

At the meeting, proposals on creation of favorable conditions for commodity producers in each other’s markets on a mutual basis, intensification of interregional cooperation, development of transit and transport corridors in the region were considered.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, views were exchanged on the issues of deepening relations in the cultural-humanitarian sphere through development of tourism, organization of joint events in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The ministers emphasized their interest in successfully holding the upcoming Advisory Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia, in Tashkent.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan Yazguly Mammedov attended the meeting.
