Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Italy can play an important role in ensuring sustainable economic development of Uzbekistan and neighboring countries. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov during the second ministerial meeting in the "Italy - Central Asia" format in Tashkent.

“We welcome the growing Italian interest in Central Asia. From the very beginning, Uzbekistan supported the initiative of Rome to hold regular ministerial conferences "Italy-Central Asia", believing that this format has significant potential for the development of multifaceted and sustainable cooperation between Italy and the countries of the region,” the head of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

Kamilov noted that taking into account the authority and influence of Italy in the European Union, the UN and other leading world platforms, such as the G7 and the G20, in our opinion, Rome could assist in promoting pressing issues facing Uzbekistan and other countries of Central Asia, at the international level.

Among them is the provision of regional security and stability against the background of heightened international tension. This also presupposes cooperation on Afghanistan, in particular in the issue of coordinating efforts to help normalize the situation in this state, as well as the delivery of humanitarian supplies for its population, the Uzbek Foreign Minister stressed.

“Italy can play an important role in ensuring sustainable economic development of Uzbekistan and neighboring countries. Thus, attracting industrial and technological potential, innovations and know-how, as well as investments and concessional loans from Italy can contribute to the creation of high-tech enterprises in our country, producing a wide range of products for the local market and export,” added Abdulaziz Kamilov.

“In addition, we see great potential for collaboration with Italy within the framework of the European Union’s GSP + and the World Trade Organization, as well as in matters of standardization, certification and logistics, in order to increase exports from our region,” he said.

“Moreover, taking into account the new perspectives that were identified and discussed during the Tashkent Conference on Regional Connectivity of Central and South Asia in July this year, our platform with Italy can open up additional economic and logistical opportunities for all countries involved,” - added the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
