Central Asian, Afghanistan Deputy Foreign Ministers and representatives of UN structures discuss current aspects of the regional agenda

TASHKENT, December 11. /Dunyo IA/. Yesterday, Uzbekistan delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sherzod Asadov has taken part in the annual meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan, via videoconference, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The event has been organized by the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event was attended by the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas Miroslav Jenča, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalia Gherman, Head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons, as well as deputy heads of foreign affairs agencies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

The parties considered the current issues of regional policy and security, the state and prospects of interaction between the Central Asian states and Afghanistan.

Views were exchanged on the activities of UNRCCA, cooperation of the Central Asian countries with this structure, the results achieved and plans for 2021.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan briefed the participants on the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to comprehensively strengthen cooperation in the region, an important mechanism of which is the regularly held Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State.

Special attention was paid to the activities carried out by Uzbekistan to enhance collaboration with Afghanistan, promote peaceful inter-Afghan talks and assist in the socio-economic recovery of the neighboring country.

Uzbekistan delegation presented the Concept of holding an international conference in 2021 in Tashkent together with UNRCCA on the results of implementation and prospects for interaction within the framework of the Joint Plan of the Central Asian States on the implementation of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
