Akramjon Nematov: Today’s event is the practical implementation of the principles and provisions of the UN General Assembly Special Resolution "Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Addressing the participants of the international forum "Dialogue of Declarations", First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan (ISMI) Akramjon Nematov noted that today’s event is the practical implementation of the principles and provisions of the UN General Assembly Special Resolution "Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance", adopted at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2018. 

In particular, as the expert emphasized, it states that adherents of all religions or beliefs, the dialogue between them make a valuable contribution to the development and enrichment of mankind, to achieving a deeper understanding and awareness of common values shared by all people.

In this regard, according to the representative of the ISMI, the resolution contains a call to respect religious and cultural diversity, to encourage tolerance, dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation between cultures, civilizations and peoples. Such an approach will contribute to the realization of the goals of universal peace, social justice, friendship, the protection of human rights, the elimination of ignorance and the practice of violence. To do this, it is necessary to maintain a global dialogue on the promotion of a culture of tolerance based on respect for human rights and respect for the diversity of religions.

In fact, Akmaljon Nematov noted, the resolution is a concentrated expression of the principles that are reflected in the Moroccan, Jakarta, Meccan, Potomac and other declarations adopted in the past six years by leading theologians, religious scholars, politicians and public figures. They also call for dialogue, education and enlightenment as an important means of asserting human rights and freedoms, including in the field of freedom of religion, and state the peaceful essence of religion.

In particular, according to Nematov, the Meccan Declaration, adopted by 1,200 theologians, religious scholars in 2019, states that the differences between people in their beliefs, cultures and essence are part of the will and wisdom of the Almighty. In this regard, it is emphasized that diversity should be a bridge to dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation for the benefit of all mankind.

On16 May, scientific and practical seminars organized within the framework of the international forum "Dialogue of Declarations" started in Tashkent.

The event is held by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the Institute for Global Engagement (USA) with the support of the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and khokimiyats of Samarkand and Bukhara regions.

Prominent religious scholars, theologians, lawyers and officials from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the USA came to the capital of our country to participate in scientific and practical seminars. From the Uzbek side, representatives of various faiths, theologians, religious scholars and specialists from relevant ministries and departments take part.
