Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan received the OSCE/ODIHR Director

TASHKENT, April 29. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received a delegation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), led by its Director Matteo Mecacci, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to the Uzbekistan MFA, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

It was noted that the visit of the ODIHR delegation takes place in the context of the deep political, social and economic transformations taking place in the country, as a result of which the image of the new Uzbekistan has been formed.

A high assessment was given to the ongoing work in the country to fully protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, ensure gender equality, improve the quality of education, and strengthen the role of media. The recognition of Uzbekistan's achievements resulted in the country's election to the UN Human Rights Council in October 2020.

The parties confirmed their interest in continuing constructive cooperation to improve the electoral legislation and practice in Uzbekistan, including taking into account the upcoming Presidential Elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
