MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE TURKISH COOPERATION AND COORDINATION AGENCY

On August 6, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serkan Kayalar, in Ankara.


As noted at the meeting, TIKA’s activities in Uzbekistan have been carried out since 1992 in the areas of implementing economic, trade, technical, educational, social and cultural programs, as well as a number of projects for mutually beneficial cooperation. During this period, TIKA implemented over 800 grant technical assistance projects in Uzbekistan worth more than 40 million USD. According to the results of 2019, this indicator is expected to increase significantly. Appointment as the Ambassador to Uzbekistan of the former TIKA Vice President Mehmet Süreyya Er is also seen as a signal that the volume and quality of Turkish technical assistance projects in Uzbekistan will reach a new level.

One of the important TIKA projects in Uzbekistan is the opening of a branch of Gebze Organized Industrial Zone. Its implementation will become a mutually beneficial step for both parties with a long-term effect, create new conditions for the investment and production activities of Turkish entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on enhancing TIKA cooperation with relevant institutions of Uzbekistan within the framework of projects and technical assistance programs in economy, culture, education, healthcare, environmental protection, tourism and a number of other socially significant areas.
