The Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament kicks off in Tashkent

The Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament of the member countries of the Inter-Parliamentary Union kicked off in Tashkent on September 8.

The event is attended by female speakers of the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its member countries, heads of international organizations, particularly the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, 120 representatives of parliaments from 17 countries.

The summit, organized with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is dedicated to the “Parliamentary leadership: Anticipating risks to deliver sustainability and prosperity better”. The event is aimed at identifying priority areas and actions of parliaments in gender equality and women's empowerment to effectively ensure stability and well-being, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequences of the crisis associated with it.

At the summit, Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov read out the greeting of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the participants.
