On 1 May 2020 due to heavy rain and wind in Syrdarya region, Uzbekistan, part of the dam on Sardoba water reservoir has burst. The natural disaster caused significant damage to villages, communication systems and agricultural land.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived to the dam's breakthrough, examined the scene of the incident, stayed there for two days until the leak stopped and constantly met with the people affected by the disaster.
On the very first day of the incident, trucks loaded with warm clothing, basic necessities and food supplies began to arrive to Syrdarya from Jizzakh, Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Andijan, Surkhandarya and other regions.
Samarkand region Administration decided to send 5 billion soums to help the population of the Sardoba region.
Group of active Tashkent drivers launched a campaign on social networks to help population of Sardoba. More than 100 cars arrived to the damaged area in one line, delivering basic necessities, clothes, bedding, children's toys and books.
Big number of people from Syrdarya arrived to Tashkent region, where all the necessary conditions including accommodation, food and medical care, were provided for them.
