In 1993-2020, Uzbekistan proposed including five cultural heritage sites and eight intangible heritage sites to UNESCO World Heritage List.
Shashmaqom, Navruz, Katta Ashula, Askiya, traditions and customs of pilaf, Lazgi Khorezm dance have been recommended by Uzbekistan for inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Margilan Handicrafts School: adras and atlas fabric manufacturing technology has been included in the list of the best experiments for protection of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.
Bakhshi art was also submitted to the representative list of intangible cultural heritage of mankind this year with participation of representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Academy of Sciences, National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO and other organizations.
The updated national list of intangible cultural heritage of Uzbekistan has been approved, which includes more than 60 elements in 15 areas.
The Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO and International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) is preparing documents of sites – Chor Bakr and Bahauddin Naqshband complexes, Vobkent fortress, Chashmai Ayub and Samanids mausoleums, ancient objects of Poykent, Varakhsha, Vardanzi, Kurtoni Romitan archeological heritage located in Bukhara region – for inclusion in UNESCO World Heritage List.
Competitions, international and national festivals are regularly organized to protect intangible cultural heritage and promote it. Starting from 2020, Lazgi International Dance Festival is planned to be held in Khiva.
